Work paradise is, in fact, to be found in the ranks of independent professionals. MBO, a company that specializes in providing services to this happy group, has just published its second State of Independence report, which documents the scale and attitudes of independent work in the United States and has some surprising things to say about who is happy, and who is happier…

Increasingly, independent workers choose their freedom rather than ending up there after a job loss. And independence may well be saving Gen Y from despair. Though Gen Yers in the independent work force are the least satisfied of all the age cohorts and the least likely to have chosen that route (40%), even they show 65% satisfaction. However, 60% report concerns about income.
